Dolmen du Pouyol

Dolmen du Pouyol

The dolmen of Pouyol marks the presence of men from the Neolithic (about 4,500 BC). This edifice, of impressive dimensions, is constituted by a table of granite (9 metres in circumference), posed on four pillars. It served as a sepulchre until about 2,500 BC. This type of dolmen with a passageway also appeared in the dolmens of Charent. Human bones, jewellery and a ceramic object have been found after some excavations. It was classified as a historical monument in 1978. (A translation of the Guides Touristique: Communauté de Communes de Noblat, by the Office of Tourism of Noblat)

The dolmen du Pouyol is located in the village of Eybouleuf.
