travelling-cam-sumak-carpet-design.jpg The two dark-coloured carpets you see on the floor are called sumaks (or soumak), and were hand-woven by Iranian immigrants to Turkey, on the eastern frontier. A sumak is a rare type of flat-woven carpet, characterised by shaggy strands of wool weaved into geometric patterns and tribal motifs.

This showroom is at the top of a hill at Goreme. The shop was set-up by female siblings who are known weavers of the city.
