Serviers

Serviers [sur•vyes] is a non-descript town of 355 inhabitants in the department of the Gard. Located 6km west of Uzès, it was a look-out post for Uzès in ancient times.

  1. Anyone who uses the term “non-descript” isn’t making much of an effort to come up with a description!!
For your elucidation, Serviers isn’t a “town” – it is a village which, in the administration system, is bracketed with Labaume, a neighbouring village – and the two villages, between them, have the population you mention.
I imagine you didn’t find the running wells, or the still frequented lavoirs, nor the disused mines of clay and coal, the multicoloured sand quarries and hidden village ovens as you drove on through the “non-descript” countryside! Perhaps you didn’t even get out of your the car to take the photo…

I must say that the Tourism Office guide could do with some guidance herself. No, she didn’t take us to see running wells, nor disused mines of clay and coal, nor the quarries. We did pass by a lavoire:

I’ve called it a village, but this site calls it a town:

I’m sure if I had gone on my own to discover Serviers, I would see more than what the guide showed us. Would you care to enlighten us about the village? Are you living in Serviers? We did not visit Labaume, only Serviers.
